Issues with mounted drive

I recently setup an Ubuntu server.  It was a painful experience, as I had to grudge up old commands, and search for new ones, I didn't know.  But it was a success, and supplies two web pages, here, and here.  The second page is still under construction.  Also has a few others servers, including a Samba server.

And that is where my current problems arise!  I don't remember the Ubuntu specific variable, to add to fstab.  So my 160 GB drive is literally read only (except for root).  I found a few sites, earlier today, which shows what the command should look like, but haven't had a chance to implement it.  Simply speaking, I have to add a UUID, instead of the DEV, which should link to the drive (or rather, the partition on that drive).

According to this post, I should set my entry to look something like this:

UUID=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx /media/newdisk vfat defaults,user,dmask=027,fmask=137 0

Other than that, the only thing I'm missing, is an FTP, proxy, and NTP server.  I don't think I'm going to try to setup a mail server, until I can get something better.

Ubuntu Server

I have never had more of a headache, then trying to install Ubuntu server. All in the pain, I guess. Either way, it is up, and running.

If I had to do it all over, I think I'd forget about trying to get a virtual desktop with VNC, and stick to PuTty, as it is easier to manipulate with. Not for the faint of heart, though. Putty uses the command line interface, making the user remember all the stuff prior to GUI days.

But, all in all, the server works well, for being on a system with limited resources. It provides a web server, an SMB server, and an SQL server. When I get the chance, I will be adding a print server to the list.

I'm also thinking of changing how this WordPress is presented, giving it it's own address. Being how Apache2 has the ability to create virtual hosts, and use the forwarded URL to tell which virtual host should respond to the request, makes it easy. My fiancée just got a web site, using the same server as mine, but using a different virtual host.

I am going to look, soon, to see if I can find a web browser that will run under terminal. If so, I should be able to remove the Gnome-core package, and the VNC server, as they'll be useless. A file browser would be nice, too . . . but not going to push my luck.

The original purpose of this blog, and my new reason

I was searching for ways to make some spending cash.  I wasn't to concerned with making a fortune, as I fell for plenty of those scams, before.  I was just wanting some spending cash, for garage sales, and flea markets.

I came across this site.  This guy literally lists some of the things a person can do, to make money.  He explains the use of Google Ads , Amazon Associates ,and a few others.  I was attracted to this, as I could integrate my Google Ads into my current Google account, and my Amazon Associates account into my Amazon account.

Not long ago, Amazon Associates came out with something called an aStore.  I went through the setup, and HTML writing, and placed an aStore onto my site .  I decided to use multiple frames, to display the aStore, while keeping the store on my site, all of which, is allowed in the TOS.

I came to the conclusion, I wouldn't be able to drive enough traffic to this blog , so I decided to not use Amazon links, in my posts. I may, however, decide to start using them, if I see a potential increase in views.

All in all, I still intend to use this, and may even decide to post reviews here.  But till then, good day!

Working on a new blog site

I spent tonight putting together a new blog, using WordPress.  I started at about one am, and spent up to five o'clock.  I'm giving up, for the night (or day, as the sun is shining through my window).

If anyone is interested, it is linked from my home page.  The link is titled "Experimental Blog".  The link should be directly below my store link.

Anyhow, I'm out . . . Good night, all!
